Call to Arms!

WHERE: Brookhaven Town Hall Auditorium

WHEN: Thursday, September 29, 2022

TIME: 5 pm

Come to protect THE council districts!

Brookhaven Democrats are trying to prevent our Town Board from adopting fair and equal district lines, and instead force a gerrymander plan that would give them more control – we can’t let this happen!

We need everyone available to come to Brookhaven Town Hall in person this Thursday at 5 pm to tell the Town Board to support our families, unite our communities, and vote to adopt this fair redistricting plan.  Don’t let the Democrats try to change the playing field to give them an unfair advantage!

Can’t make it?  Make sure your voice is heard!  Cut and paste the letter below into an email with your name and town at the bottom to TownClerk@BrookhavenNY.gov :

I am writing to urge the Town Board to vote yes and adopt the redistricting map of least change that is scheduled for a public hearing on Thursday, September 29.

This map makes no changes for more than 90 percent of residents, keeping them within the council districts they have traditionally voted in.  At the same time, the map unifies many communities that have unfairly been split under previous redistricting plans, such as Coram and Ridge.  This map also makes sure that the voices of those in Gordon Heights and North Bellport are not diluted by keeping them together within the same council district, as requested by the residents who live there.

The redistricting process conducted by Brookhaven was fair, open, and transparent, with more than a dozen public hearings and numerous opportunities for residents to participate and have their voices heard.  Many of their suggestions and requests can be seen in the changes that have been made to this map.

The six council districts in this new map are fair, compact, keep like-minded communities together, and have equal populations.  They comply with federal, state, and local laws and will avoid gerrymandering for political gain that has been seen in other municipalities undergoing redistricting.

Please vote yes on this map on September 29 for fair council districts in Brookhaven Town.

Sincerely,
